Fund Raising

The Great Duck Race

Held on the 4th of July every year, the Great Duck Race is one of our biggest fund raisers. Each year members sell duck tickets for a chance to win a variety of prizes donated by the local community at a value of over $4000. At noon on the 4th, more than 2000 rubber ducks are dumped into the Siuslaw River from the boardwalk port in Old Town for a race to the end! Proceeds from the race go to support several projects in the local community.

See's Candy Wagon

One of our major fund raisers, the candy wagon is open in the Safeway parking lot during the month of December for the Christmas season, and for two weeks in February for Valentines Day. The wagon is open 7 days a week and is staffed by Kiwanis member for 2 hour shifts. The wagon offers the public several varieties of premium See's candy.

KDCCP (Kiwanis Doernbecher Children's Cancer Center Program)

Pacific Northwest District Kiwanis clubs in Oregon and Southwest Washington conduct an annual fund raiser for the Dorenbecher Children's Cancer Center. In the past, the funds raised have been used to build 6 private rooms for young cancer victims and  include facilities for their parents to stay with them during their ordeal. Currently the funds raised are being used to provide training for three doctors a year in children's oncology. The results of everyone's generous contributions over the years have resulted in the terminal cancer rate in children dropping from 800% to less that 20%.

Concert By the Lake

Every year this concert raises money for the Relief Child Care Program and the Parent Child Play Group, which has had their budgets eliminated and are currently locally funded. Members provide the food concessions and the coordination of the musicians.

Both of these programs provide services for families with children birth through age 5, and meet the YCPO criteria. Kiwanis helps these programs stay afloat by participating at the concert. Click here for photos...
